Huntsville–Walk With A Soft Moccasin–Day 2
October 19 @ 10:00 am - 2:00 pm
This is a special 2024 healing project that we have entitled: Walk With A Soft Moccasin.
Over the past few months participants have been working with various deer and moose hyde projects and building their creative beading skills. The end goal is to have urban Muskoka Indigenous community members feel confident with these materials to now make the ultimate–their own pair of moccasins.
Day 2 is where the participants will take their previously beaded vamps and assemble into a completed moccasin. Participants will be working with sinew, berber lining, and fur top edging.
Various moccasins from the 1800’s will be on site to use as inspiration and teachings.
Due to the costs involved in a moccasin workshop and the need to make this available to as many urban Muskoka Indigenous community members as possible, this activity is not open to our non-Indigenous allies at this time. Maarsii, Miigwetch, Nia:wen, Thank You for understanding the need for this healing activity among the Indigenous community.
