National Indigenous Veterans Day

National Indigenous Veterans Day is a memorial day observed in Canada in recognition of aboriginal contributions to military service, particularly in the First and Second World Wars and the Korean War. It occurs annually on 8 November. The day was first commemorated in 1994.

During WWII, when Indigenous soldiers returned to Canada, many of them realized they had lost their Indian Status. Despite their service to the nation, their rights were taken away and they did not receive the same recognition and benefits as their White counterparts.
