Auntie Circle of Care
The Aunties !!
The Auntie Circle of Care is founded on the principle that urban Indigenous communities are well positioned to recognize the needs of their children and have the capacity to draw together the resources to address those needs. One of those resources are the Aunties of the community.
Recognizing the need for a mentoring relationship with families in crisis, vulnerability, or already dealing with Child Protective Services, the Aunties can be that source of cultural, experience, emotional, mental, social, and physical support.
Often an Auntie is able to come alongside a family when closer family individuals may be a trigger to a situation. But that is okay–because the Aunties work towards the healing journey of the entire family and its extended members. They do this by helping to connect families with additional community resources–to help the family in a good medicine way of complete circle healing. And the Aunties are only one part of the journey.
Aunties in our community include those with RECE credentials, CPR/AED, Food Handlers, Mental Health Awareness training and more. All must also submit a Vulnerable Sector report to MIFC Head Office.
