SUMMARY:National Indigenous Veterans Day
DESCRIPTION:National Indigenous Veterans Day is a memorial day observed in Canada in recognition of aboriginal contributions to military service\, particularly in the First and Second World Wars and the Korean War. It occurs annually on 8 November. The day was first commemorated in 1994. \nDID YOU KNOW? \nDuring WWII\, when Indigenous soldiers returned to Canada\, many of them realized they had lost their Indian Status. Despite their service to the nation\, their rights were taken away and they did not receive the same recognition and benefits as their White counterparts.

SUMMARY:RYDE--Orange Shirt Pin
DESCRIPTION:Orange Shirt Pin is an activity to bring attention to the Every Child Matters movement. \nEvery Child Matters / Orange Shirt Day / Truth and Reconciliation Day — September 30 \nOrange Shirt Day\, observed annually on September 30\, is an Indigenous-led commemoration to raise awareness of the residential school system’s intergenerational impacts and to promote reconciliation and anti-racism. Inspired by former residential school student Phyllis Jack Webstad\, who shared her story of having her new orange shirt taken away on her first day\, the day symbolizes the stripping of Indigenous children’s cultures\, freedoms\, and self-esteem. Wearing an orange shirt is a commitment to learning the history of these institutions\, honouring Survivors\, and remembering the children who never returned home.
